Getting started

Nobody needs to download anything to add a photograph. A guest is never asked for an app, an account, a name or an email address, on the trial or on the paid plan.

The host can create and try a wall the same way, with no account at all. An account, made with an email and a six-digit code, or with Google or Microsoft, is only needed at the point of paying for the event, and keeps every wall safe across devices from then on.

Setting one up takes about a minute: a name, a date, a look and a cover photograph, and the guest page and QR code are ready to try immediately.

What arrives ready to print is a print-ready A4 PDF, laid out as one sign for the entrance and four table cards, plus a large PNG for anything else. The QR code itself comes in ten designs across six colours, and every one of them is tested to make sure it scans.

On the night

The wall runs as one of four layouts: photographs laid out like prints across the screen, one photograph at a time, a drifting gallery, or a mosaic. A new photograph always lands as a print first, then settles into whichever layout is running underneath, and when nothing new has arrived for a while the wall simply walks back through the evening rather than sitting still. A title card carrying the QR code appears between photographs, large enough to scan from across the room.

Any screen with a browser is enough: the venue's own smart TV, a laptop plugged into a projector, or a tablet on a stand. There is nothing to cast to and nothing extra to install, and the screen stays awake for as long as the wall is open.

A weak connection at the venue does not stop an upload. It continues in the background and picks up again once the connection returns, and the wall itself reconnects the same way if it briefly drops.

Everything about how the wall looks can change once the party is under way, either from the wall's own on-screen controls or from the settings in the dashboard, and the wall follows within a second.

Photographs and video

  • Video as well as photographs, up to 25 MB per file, with no separate limit on how long a video may run beyond that size, and a video is never re-encoded or compressed.
  • iPhone photographs saved as HEIC convert automatically, so nothing looks broken later.
  • Several files at once, chosen from a guest's own gallery rather than added one by one.

What guests see and do

The guest page has three tabs: the newest photographs as they arrive, the guest's own, and the favourites. A guest can give any photograph a heart or write a short line under it, if the host has left both turned on; the host can switch either off from the dashboard.

What a guest never sees is a running count. There is no indication anywhere on the guest page of how many photographs are left on a trial.

Afterwards

Getting everything back is one download: the whole album as a single zip file, straight from the dashboard. On the paid plan, the originals inside it are full resolution, exactly as guests uploaded them.

A trial keeps its photographs for 7 days; a paid event keeps them for 365 days. If the host gave an email address, a reminder goes out before anything is deleted, so there is time to download everything first.

The host can remove any single photograph from the dashboard at any point, whether it arrived yesterday or a year ago.

Price

Trying Galawall costs nothing: 50 photographs, the whole wall, no card required. "The evening" itself is one payment, $49, per event, with no subscription to remember to cancel afterwards.

Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, in the host's own currency, and the price stays the same whether ten guests scan the code or three hundred.

Once the payment goes through, a receipt is emailed straight away: the event's name, the amount and currency, the payment reference, the date the photographs are kept until, and a link back to the dashboard. It goes to whichever email the host gave; a host who paid without one can add an email address from the dashboard afterwards.

If the wall genuinely does not do what we say it does, write to support@galawall.com. We would rather refund the event than argue about it.

Privacy

Every photograph and file is stored on Google's servers in the EU. Guests are never asked for a name or an email address before they can add something to the wall.

A guest who would rather not have a photograph of them on the wall can ask the host to take it down. Only the host removes anything, from a single photograph to the event as a whole, from the dashboard.

The seller behind Galawall, Kunn AS, is a Norwegian company, and support answers questions by email at support@galawall.com.

How it works

A minute to set up. A lifetime to look back on.

  1. Create.

Give the evening a name and a look. No account needed to begin.

  2. Print.

A sign for the door and cards for the tables, ready for the printer.

  3. Watch.

Put the wall on a screen. Your guests do the rest.

Questions

Does anyone need to download an app or make an account?
No, not to add a photograph. A guest never needs an app, an account, a name or an email address, on the trial or on the paid plan. The host can create and try a wall the same way, with no account at all, and only needs one, made with an email and a six-digit code or with Google or Microsoft, at the point of paying for the event.
How long does it take to set up a wall?
About a minute. Give the wall a name, a date, a look and a cover photograph, and the guest page and QR code are ready to try straight away.
What do we get to print for the day?
A print-ready A4 PDF with one sign for the entrance and four table cards, plus a large PNG for anything else. The QR code comes in ten designs across six colours, and every one is tested to make sure it scans.
What shows on the screen during the party?
One of four layouts: photographs laid out like prints, one at a time, a drifting gallery, or a mosaic. A new photograph always lands as a print first, then settles into whichever layout is running, and when nothing new has arrived for a while the wall walks back through the evening rather than sitting still. A title card carrying the QR code appears between photographs.
What screen do we need, and what if the venue's wifi is weak?
Any screen with a browser: a smart TV, a laptop plugged into a projector, or a tablet on a stand. Nothing to cast to and nothing extra to install. A weak connection does not stop an upload either; it continues in the background and picks up again once the connection returns, and the wall reconnects the same way.
Can we change how the wall looks once the party has started?
Yes, at any point, from the wall's own on-screen controls or from the settings in the dashboard. The wall follows within a second: the layout, how long each photograph stays up, the code, and whether guests' lines and hearts are on.
Can guests add video as well as photographs?
Yes, up to 25 MB per file. There is no separate limit on how long a video may run beyond that size, and a video is never re-encoded or compressed.
What about iPhone photos, or adding several at once?
iPhone photographs saved as HEIC convert automatically, so nothing looks broken later. A guest can also choose several files from their gallery in one go rather than adding them one by one.
What do guests see on the guest page?
Three tabs: the newest photographs as they arrive, their own, and the favourites. A guest can give any photograph a heart or write a short line under it, if the host has left both turned on; the host can switch either off from the dashboard.
Can guests see how many photographs are left on the trial?
No. The guest page never shows a running count of anything, on the trial or afterwards.
How do we get all the photographs after the event?
As one download: the whole album as a single zip file, straight from the dashboard. On the paid plan the originals inside it are full resolution, exactly as guests uploaded them.
How long are the photographs kept?
7 days on the trial, 365 days once the evening is paid for. If the host gave an email address, a reminder goes out before anything is deleted, so there is time to download everything first.
Can we take down a photograph we would rather not keep?
Yes. The host can remove any single photograph from the dashboard at any point, whether it arrived yesterday or a year ago.
Is Galawall free to try?
Yes. Trying it costs nothing: 50 photographs, the whole wall, no card required.
How much does the evening cost, and is it a subscription?
One payment, $49, per event, and nothing recurring. "The evening" covers unlimited photographs and video, full-resolution originals, and 365 days of storage, with no subscription to remember to cancel afterwards.
Does the price depend on how many guests come, and how do we pay?
No, it stays the same whether ten guests scan the code or three hundred. Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, in the host's own currency.
Is there a receipt when we pay?
Yes, by email, sent as soon as the payment goes through. It carries the event's name, the amount and currency, the payment reference, the date the photographs are kept until, and a link back to the dashboard. It goes to whichever email the host gave; a host who paid without one can add an email address from the dashboard afterwards.
What happens if the wall does not work as we say it does?
Write to support@galawall.com. If the wall genuinely does not do what we say it does, we would rather refund the event than argue about it.
Where are our photographs stored, and do guests share personal details?
On Google's servers in the EU. Guests are never asked for a name or an email address before they can add something to the wall.
Can a guest ask to have their own photograph removed?
Yes, through the host. Only the host can take a photograph down, from the dashboard, so a guest who wants theirs removed asks the host to do it; the host can also delete the whole event outright.
Who is behind Galawall, and how do we reach support?
Kunn AS, a Norwegian company. Support answers by email at support@galawall.com.
